Witch Hazel Bark (Hamamelis Virginiana) is native to eastern North America, from Nova Scotia west to Minnesota, and south to central Florida to eastern Texas. It is a small, deciduous tree growing up to almost 20 feet, often with a dense cluster of stems from its base. The bark is light brown, smooth, scaly, inner bark reddish purple.
Witch hazel bark is taken by mouth to help with diarrhea, mucus colitis, vomiting blood, coughing up blood, tuberculosis, colds, and fevers.* Some people apply witch hazel bark directly to the skin as it may help with itching and swelling, various injuries, bruises, insect bites, minor burns, and other skin irritations.*
